Avicenna Community Health Center
Our main clinic is now open!
In the spring of 2009, a group of community members from the Muslim community got together to address a pressing need: inadequate healthcare coverage for the uninsured and under-insured members of the Champaign-Urbana community.
Inspired by this mission and the desire to embody the spirit of community activism in Islam, Avicenna Community Health Center (ACHC) was born. It is now incorporated with the State of Illinois as a not‐for‐profit organization.
On January 23rd, 2010, Avicenna Community Health Center launched a new phase of its mission by offering weekend services in its Champaign location. We currently offer our services to patients twice a week on Saturday and Sunday.
Who is Avicenna?

Avicenna is the Latinized name of the Muslim physicist, astronomer, mathematician and physician Ibn Sina (b. 980 CE). He is considered a father of modern medicine particularly for his discovery of the contagious nature of infectious diseases, the introduction of quarantine to limit the spread of diseases, and the introduction of experimental medicine and the use of clinical trials and efficacy tests. It is our hope to recognize his excellence in medicine and promote a healthy lifestyle in our community through health screenings and education. Find out more!

Champaign - A third clinic to serve the people without health insurance has opened in Champaign.
The Avicenna Community Health Center, a venture of the local Muslim community, opened in late January in the same building housing two other free clinics – the Champaign County Christian Health Center and Hope Community Health Center – at 507 S. Second St., C.
All three clinics are open limited hours and staffed with volunteer medical professionals.
Avicenna is open only on weekends for now, and is serving adults 18 and older of all faiths, according to Irfan Ahmad, a University of Illinois research scientist serving as president of Avicenna's board.
